How to enable and monetize Adsense HTTPS sites?

Written By Ankit Sharma on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 | 5:06 AM

Do you have a website that works with secure HTTP (or HTTPS)? Above all, social networking sites or e-commerce, or even features user logon, run entirely or partly in the HTTPS protocol. If running as a website, you would have realized that it is not easy to put ads on HTTPS secure pages. And as Google AdSense is (more or less) the standard that there has to be compatible with HTTPS. Previously, AdSense does not work with such a secure protocol. However, Google just posted this, and improved advertising network that can deliver ads to even HTTPS pages. This will allow users to monetize their pages HTTPS too.

Why HTTPS requires a different ad format?

HTTPS is a secure version of the HTTP protocol standard , commonly used to transfer data HtperText anywhere. The ' S ' , of course, means "safe." You must have seen this protocol at work on sites like Facebook , YouTube or e-commerce sites , or even other sites that require users to log in with their credentials. The secure HTTPS provides additional security and protect sensitive user data such as passwords, credit card numbers , etc.

Due to the nature of HTTPS secure protocol, HTTPS enabled sites require all page content (including advertisements ) to be compatible with SSL. SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer , and provides a secure method of communication over the Internet .

As a result , the system automatically removes all AdSense ads is not compatible with SSL compete in the auction on these pages. So if you were to convert your current website HTTP to HTTPS, immediately lose their incomes dramatically.

But if new ads conform HTTPS are used.

Using AdSense on HTTPS enabled pages

To use AdSense on sites HTTPS enabled , all you have to do is create some new ad for your site. The old codes only support HTTP , so you will have to get new ones. Just create a new ad unit in your AdSense control panel and get the new ad code for that unit .

Now all that remains is to add the source code of your web page where you want the code to appear . These ads will work on HTTP, and HTTPS enabled web sites .

Note that you do not necessarily have to create a new ad unit. But you have to get the new code of existing units , and leave the old code, because the old code does not support HTTPS.

That's it! Your ads will now support HTTPS !
